Experienced in the physical rehabilitation of adults in a wide variety of settings. I am researching how to make data analysis, particularly research synthesis and meta-analysis, more useful to working clinicians.

The process of research synthesis is just as important as the product. The strengths and drawbacks of all statistical philosophies are best discussed in the context of formal decision theory.

The writings of statistician Herman Chernoff best describe my outlook.

Quote:
“Frankly, I am not a Bayesian. I go by the following principle. If you don’t understand the problem from a Bayesian decision theory point of view, you don’t understand the problem you are trying to solve; it is like shooting a target in the dark. Once you understand the problem, it is not necessary to attack it from a Bayesian point of view.”

In the context of research synthesis, more attention should be placed on Bayesian and Likelihood methods.
