In reading peer reviews of manuscripts, as an author and editor, I have noticed an unquestioning value of Cronbach’s alpha as a measure of scientific rigor. High alpha doesn’t mean a good measure and a low alpha doesn’t mean it is a poor measure as not all indexes as designed to have scale-like qualities. It would be great to get other perspectives on this.
